For months, the USS Abraham Lincoln has been one of the most important American warships operating in the Middle East. Now, however, the aircraft carrier has become the centre of a very different story — one involving exhaustion, deteriorating morale, alleged shortages, mental-health concerns and a crew that has spent an extraordinary length of time away from home. The controversy has intensified in August 2026, after families of sailors aboard the carrier began speaking publicly about conditions on board. Some have described shortages of food and water, plumbing problems and an increasingly difficult environment for a crew that has spent more than 250 days at sea without a conventional port visit.
